College football fans, it’s time for some bowl action. In the sunny land of Southern California, two names often come to mind during bowl season: the USC Trojans and the Rose Bowl. Those two names are as common to the west coast region as the blissful sunshine and picturesque beaches. Well, unfortunately the Rose Bowl in Pasadena is no longer an option for the Los Angeles powerhouse. However, Steve Sarkisian and the Men of Troy may have found the next best thing just two hours south at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, where the National University Holiday Bowl will be commencing on Dec. 27.
Nothing has been written in stone as of yet; the destination has yet to be announced. Depending on how the Pac-12 title game and the Alamo Bowl pan out, the Trojans just may be receiving an invitation to the Holiday Bowl.
The committee members of the San Diego based bowl have been eying USC for quite some time now. If this decision does come to fruition, it will be their first appearance. They will be paired up with a team from the Big Ten conference. Iowa, Minnesota or Wisconsin would be ideal.
As a second option, the Holiday Bowl representatives would potentially consider UCLA, Arizona or Arizona State – teams that have already attended the bowl within the last six years. Similar to USC, Wisconsin nor Minnesota have ever played in the Holiday Bowl. Debuting two first-time contenders with such a large following would be a huge plus for the city of San Diego.
In the event that the Trojans fail to get an invitation, there is always the Foster Farms Bowl and the Hyundai Sun Bowl – both of which are scheduled near the end of December.
