It seems like coach-less college football teams are announcing their new head coaches left and right today. The Florida Gators struck first with the hiring of former Colorado State coach Jim McElwain. Then, the Nebraska Cornhuskers found their man next.

Although Nebraska probably shouldn’t have fired Bo Pelini in the first place, Mike Riley doesn’t seem to be too bad of a fit. It is always hit or miss with new coaches, but Riley has found some success at Oregon State, which plays in the always talented Pac-12. With that said, the Beavers finished with a 5-7 record this year.
It is kind of a surprise that Florida and Nebraska didn’t wait a little longer to test out the coaching market more, but if they had a guy in mind, then they had a guy in mind.
Regardless, Riley is certainly going to have some big shoes to fill. Not only does he have to replace a coach that led his team to a 9-3 record this season, which apparently wasn’t good enough, but he will, of course, have to take over the Nebraska coaching job.
Who knows who the Michigan Wolverines will hire next, but two of the bigger coaching jobs have been filled, and it isn’t even bowl season yet.
