Fiesta Bowl Matchup: No. 20 Boise State Broncos (11-2) vs. No. 10 Arizona Wildcats (10-3)
TV Schedule: Wednesday, Dec. 31, 4:00 p.m. ET, ESPN
Stadium: University of Phoenix Stadium
The Boise State Broncos lucked out this year. Don’t get me wrong, the team had a great season, but there is no way the Broncos would have been playing in this big of a bowl if last year’s system was still in place. Since a new system started this year, Boise State will be playing in a New Year’s Six bowl.
Hopefully the Broncos were watching the Pac-12 championship game. In that game, the Arizona Wildcats lost to the Oregon Ducks by the score of 51-13. Boise State, on the other hand, won the Mountain West championship by the score of 28-14. Fresno State is no Oregon, so I guess there is that.
Upsets certainly happen, especially in bowl season, but I like Arizona’s chances in this one. Not only will the game be played in Arizona, but the Wildcats have been challenged all season long. The Broncos’ toughest game was arguably played against the Ole Miss Rebels, which is certainly a tough game, but their schedule was pretty weak after that.
The Wildcats played Oregon twice (1-1), and played in the Pac-12 South, which was easily one of the toughest divisions in football.
Although Arizona had a terrible outing in the Pac-12 title game, expect head coach Rich Rodriguez to have his guys ready for the Fiesta Bowl, and for his team to win by a touchdown or two.
PREDICTION: Broncos 24, Wildcats 35
