Washington State football head coach Mike Leach is known for his colorful use of the English language during press conferences, and I’m not talking about using unprintable language.
On the front page of the Google search “Mike Leach quotes” are such interesting headlines as “Mike Leach Predicts the End of Existence,” where he talks about how Twitter and texting will put an end to dating and therefore the human race. There’s also a link to a dedicated Leach page on a quotation site where you’d expect to find citations of people like Mark Twain or Albert Einstein. They’re there, but the Mad Pirate also has his own page.
He also has his own book called ‘Swing Your Sword,’ a title that is completely expected as well as head-smackingly ridiculous. That, apparently, is also chock-full of Leach-speak for several hundred pages. I’m half tempted to pick up a copy, but also concerned about what I might find there.
So it makes sense that when the Cougars held Fan Appreciation Night after an extremely disappointing 3-9 season with two Pac-12 victories, one of the prizes was Leach recording a voicemail for a fan. The greeting is exactly what you would expect from a Mike Leach voice mail. Have a look at the history-making moment for yourself:
If the Cougars could play as well as Mike Leach records voice mails for fans, Wazzu would be in the National Championship discussion every year. One would think that the voicemails Leach leaves on the phones of potential recruits would do half the sell job he needs to convince the kids to come to the Palouse.
