If you’re choosing a college as the No. 1 recruit in the entire nation, you need to pick one that will give you the best chance to win as well as the best chance to succeed in the near future. If you’re Byron Cowart, you made the right decision by choosing the Auburn Tigers over Florida at 9:15 a.m. on National Signing Day.
The best defensive end, and overall player, for the class made the right pick by choosing the Tigers over the Gators.
It’s not as surprising as many would think, however, as former Florida head coach Will Muschamp was hired as Auburn’s defensive coordinator shortly after being fired as the head man following the 2014 season. Developing a strong relationship with the highly-touted end was Muschamp and that made Auburn a clear favorite as Jim McElwain and the current Florida staff was left at a disadvantage.
Auburn now has the No. 9 recruiting class in the nation and head coach Gus Malzahn has put together yet another impressive group of kids as the Tigers will be competing for yet another national title in 2015.
Cowart made the smart choice and one that is much safer with a staff already in place and a great defensive mind like Muschamp guiding him for the next three or four years.
Don’t be surprised if Cowart is mentioned with the likes of Jadeveon Clowney and Robert Nkemdiche within the next couple of years. The 6-foot-3, 252-pound end will be a force in the SEC and will lead the Tigers to a title in the near future.
