The Texas A&M Aggies will get to see Kyler Murray in College Station after all.
Despite getting an early verbal commitment from the No. 5 dual-threat quarterback in the 2015 recruiting class, there was plenty of reason to worry that he would never make it to campus. First, A&M had to fight off a late push from the Texas Longhorns in the lead-up to National Signing Day as Murray flirted with the notion of flipping to Austin. He eventually stayed true to the Aggies, but the worrying wasn’t done just yet.
In addition to his exploits on the football field, Murray is an exceptional baseball player and there was the possibility that he could be selected with a high pick in the upcoming MLB Draft, prompting him to ditch football to pursue his baseball career. Ahead of the draft next month, however, Murray took to his Twitter account to make sure everyone knew where he stood:
Opting out of the MLB draft. Looking forward to continuing my football and baseball career at Texas A&M University. See ya down the road!

Murray will in fact enroll at Texas A&M for the summer session and get to work learning the Aggies’ offensive playbook so that he can challenge for the starting quarterback job with sophomore Kyle Allen. Allen’s starting experience, however, will be hard for Murray to overcome on such short notice and a redshirt seems likely for the talented signal caller. If that’s the case, the race for the No. 1 quarterback job should be very explosive for 2016.
Texas A&M has had to deal with plenty of anxiety when it comes to their top-rated recruit in the 2015 class but now it seems they can breathe a deep sigh of relief. With Murray confirming his commitment to come to College Station to play both football and baseball, the future of the Aggies’ offense looks very bright, indeed.
