One Iowa State Cyclones recruit will have to nurse himself back to full health, after accidentally shooting himself in his hand.
Sergeant Joe Grubbs of the Bakersfield (Calif.) Police Department said in a statement that running back Sheldon Croney injured himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, while no one else was injured in the incident.
“He found a firearm and while manipulating the fire arm, shot himself in the hand,” Grubbs said, via the Desmoinse Register. “It’s pretty much opened and closed.”
No update was provided on Croney’s status.
The good news for the running back recruit, however, is that he is not expected to face any charges for the gun-related incident.
During his final season at the high school level, Croney rushed for 2,271 yards and 32 touchdowns. Croney was expected to compete for playing time during his first season with the Cyclones.
