The Arizona State Sun Devils continue to boost their recruiting class. This past Friday, former Notre Dame signee Marshall “Bo“ Wallace shifted gears and signed a Grant-in-Aid letter to announce he’d be playing football in Tempe, Ariz.
Wallace is already expected to be a prime candidate for the important “Devilbacker” position in coach Todd Graham‘s attacking defense. The three-star linebacker brings a large 6-foot-4 frame at 215 pounds.
With Wallace coming to town, the competition increases on the defensive side of the ball. This spring, both redshirt freshman Ismael Murphy-Richardson and sophomore Alani Latu competed for the important play-making position, but neither were able to lock it down. Further, five-star recruit Davon Durant remains off the roster after an alleged domestic assault incident, making his future at ASU unknown.
Actually, Graham had mentioned at the end of spring practice that it was in fact running back Kalen Ballage who stood out the most playing the prized position, and he would look to use him on both sides of the ball. However, with Wallace’s arrival, Ballage can now be expected to remain on the offensive side of the ball with fellow running back Demario Richard.
Wallace comes to Tempe from Louisiana’s River Ridge John Curtis Christian High School, a school that currently holds the national-record for most state championships at 26. Last season alone, Wallace recorded nine sacks and tacked on 16 tackles for loss, a major need for the Devils defense that was often abused by Pac-12 rushing attacks last season.
