There is significant pressure building in Baton Rouge for the LSU Tigers to find a quarterback that can take this team back to the top of the SEC. Les Miles will have another quarterback in the mix to consider with former Purdue Boilermakers quarterback Danny Etling set to transfer and join the chaos in 2016. Will he provide some answers under center?
In two seasons at Purdue, Etling flashed some solid playmaking ability, racking up 2,490 yards through the air with 16 touchdowns against 12 interceptions in 13 games. The struggles of the team around him contributed to him ultimately losing his starting job to Austin Appleby which ultimately prompted Etling to look for a new home in 2015.
At LSU, Etling joins a chaotic quarterback situation that is wide open for anyone that can step up and take control of it. Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris went back and forth as the No. 1 QB with neither signal caller really distinguishing themselves. The duo continued to battle through spring practice without a clear winner emerging, though Jennings’ status is up in the air following his arrest and subsequent suspension from the team.
Etling will be the fourth scholarship quarterback on the roster this fall joining Jennings, Harris, and Justin McMillan. LSU also has a verbal commitment from 2016 quarterback and ESPN 300 recruit Feleipe Franks, creating a potential logjam in the backfield in the very near future.
Whether or not Etling answers the quarterback question at LSU remains to be seen, but at the very least he adds another talented arm to the mix for 2016. Can the Tigers finally get over the top with Etling in the mix?
