Vanderbilt football rightfully faced some serious backlash on Thursday morning after the team’s official twitter account tweeted out an ill-timed and poorly worded slogan to get fans hyped up for the upcoming 2015 season.
The tweet has been deleted, but we all know nothing can ever be completely deleted on the internet, so here’s a screenshot of what was posted.
In case you need a refresher, four former Vanderbilt football players were accused of rape of an unconscious female student in June, 2013. Even if that incident never happened, the slogan is extremely insensitive and just a terrible choice for so many different reasons.
Fortunately, the school realized what happened and tweeted out an apology just over a half-hour later.
We apologize for today’s tweet. It’s not a comment about sexual assault. Sex without permission is always wrong and not accepted. (1/2)

Sexual assault is not acceptable at Vanderbilt University, Vanderbilt Athletics and Vanderbilt Football. (2/2) — VandyFootball (@VandyFootball) August 6, 2015
Obviously, whoever posted the initial tweet meant no harm and didn’t realize their mistake, but a major college football program has no excuse and simply needs to be more careful.
