TV Schedule: Saturday, September 12, 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPNU
Location: Kyle Field, College Station, Texas
Line: Texas A&M (-30)
Both teams enter this matchup undefeated, but the Texas A&M Aggies clearly have the upper hand. The Ball State Cardinals come to College Station 1-0 after scoring 45 points in their first matchup. The only problem, the Cardinals allowed 36 points to FCS opponent VMI in Week 1.
The Aggies on the other hand come in with all the momentum after not only cracking the Top 25 after their win over then No. 15 Arizona State Sun Devils in Houston last week, they break into the top 20 residing at No. 16. The Aggies look for a more crisp offensive performance in their home field. While they scored 38 against the Sun Devils, there were plenty of deficiencies. Aside from a few spectacular plays by freshman wide receiver Christian Kirk on offense and special teams and freshman quarterback Kyler Murray showcasing his speed, the score was much closer.
The underrated defense led by stud defensive end Myles Garrett looks to dismantle another opponent as the Cardinals look to reenter the bowl season, missing last year’s with a 5-7 record. Allowing that many points to a FCS opponent doesn’t bode well for Ball State, however. Especially since they’ll have trouble moving the ball against a rejuvenated defense under first-year coordinator John Chavis.
Prediction: Texas A&M 54, Ball State 20
