The Tennessee Volunteers had all the hype coming into this 2015 season, and at this point all the hype seems to have jinxed them. Before the season even began,Volunteer fans were expecting to contend for the SEC East title. Now fans are hoping just not to end up in last place in the East.
The Volunteers now are 2-3, including a 0-2 in conference play thus far. The 0-2 could not be more heartbreaking for Tennessee, as in both of those games the Volunteers gave up big leads. Another big lead that Tennessee give up earlier in the season was to Oklahoma, as the Volunteers gave up seventeen unanswered points and subsequently lost to the Sooners in overtime 31-24. In the conference opener against the Florida Gators, Tennessee gave up two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter to fall to the Gators 28-27. Then this past Saturday, the Volunteers gave up an early 14-0 lead to Arkansas and were held to just 3 points in the second half, losing to the Hogs 24-20.
With all of this heartbreak, Tennessee is trying harder than ever to find themselves. The schedule doesn’t get easier for the Volunteers, so the time is now to step it up. Finishing out games is the key to a victory, and Tennessee is finding this out in the hardest fashion.
It’s time for the Volunteers to step it up, and go off of this momentum that they build in the beginning of games and not let the pressure get to them later on. The Arkansas Razorbacks have been known to replicate what the Volunteers have been doing, and losing leads late in the 4th quarter time after time. So for the Volunteers to lose to the Razorbacks after having a big lead is a real kick to the face, but will hopefully inspire the team all that much more to never let it happen again.
Tennessee faces off against the 19th ranked Georgia Bulldogs next Saturday in a game where they look to finish in that fourth quarter.
