Last week, our nation suffered through yet another domestic attack. A 20-year-old male, who I refuse to mention by name, opened fire on the Umpqua Community College campus, killing nine people and injuring nine others.
This senseless act of violence has forever changed the lives of everyone in the town of Roseburg, Oregon as well the rest of America. I don’t have a simple solution, but something must be done to attempt to halt attacks on our home soil. We are all Americans and we should care for and protect each other.
As a show of support for the UCC community, the Oregon Ducks football team has offered every student and staff member from Umpqua four free tickets to this Saturday’s game against Washington State.
“On behalf of the University of Oregon Athletic Department, we want to invite you to attend the Oregon vs. Washington State Football game on October 10, 2015 at 3pm. After entering your information below, you will be e-mailed a promotional code that is good for up to 4 FREE TICKETS to this weekend’s game. Please call 541-346-4461 if you have any questions.”
This is a tremendous gesture by the Oregon athletic department as it gives the students and faculty at UCC a chance to distract themselves from the hurt and the pain that they’ve been feeling, even if it only lasts for a couple of hours.
