TV Schedule: Saturday, October 17, 7:00 p.m., ESPNU
Stadium: Memorial Stadium, Clemson, S.C.
Line: Clemson (-15.5)
The Clemson Tigers (5-0, 2-0) have been on a roll. Week after week they continue to prove that they are a contender for the College Football Playoff. Last week they pounded on Georgia Tech, 43-24. Their defense starred as they held the exemplary triple option attack of the Yellow Jackets to just 71 rushing yards on 42 attempts. Although they are heavy favorites, Clemson will be sure not to overlook their Saturday opponent in favor of their Nov. 7 contest against Florida State.
The Boston College Eagles (3-3, 0-3) have the No. 1 defense in the country. They allow just 140.3 yards per game and have given up only two TDs the whole season. Despite their impressive defensive play, they have been absolutely awful on offense. They rank 118th in total offense, with an average of just 323.0 yards per game, good for 118th in the country.
Clemson star QB Deshaun Watson won’t light up the scoreboard against the Eagles. However, his team will win. Handily. It’s a shame that BC can’t put together a cohesive unit, because their defense is truly impressive to watch. That game against Duke two weekends ago was a defensive fan’s dream.
Boston College was shut out last week by Wake Forest last week, 3-0. They had not been shut out since 2010, and have now been blanked twice in the last four weeks.
Florida State was only able to score one TD on the Eagles’ defense and gain 217 total yards. However, they shut out their pathetic offense and held them to 195 total yards.
The game on Saturday could be another shutout. Chances are Boston College won’t reach double digits, especially on the road.
Prediction: Clemson: 21, Boston College: 3
