The No. 13 Utah Utes (6-1, 3-1 Pac-12) are looking to bounce back after falling flat in Week 8 against the USC Trojans in their first loss of the season. Their performance caused them to tumble out of the top 10 in the rankings and put their Pac-12 South chances in peril. Now, they return home looking to get back on track against the Oregon State Beavers (2-5, 0-4) in a tailor-made matchup for the Utes to return to their winning ways.
Oregon State is in the midst of rebuilding under first-year head coach Gary Andersen but they seem to have found a dynamic young quarterback to build around in true freshman Seth Collins. The dual-threat star has accounted for 1,426 total yards of offense and 11 total touchdowns but has struggled to turn his playmaking prowess into wins for the Beavers. Part of the problem for OSU has been their defense which has allowed an average of 402.3 yards and 31.1 points per game this season.
Utah, on the other hand, has surged into Pac-12 contention and as high as No. 3 in the AP poll this season behind a balanced offensive attack led by Devontae Booker. The senior running back ranks third in the Pac-12, averaging 120.7 yards per game this season as he’s tallied 845 yards rushing with eight touchdowns on the ground. In addition, he’s also contributed 257 receiving yards on 29 receptions and threw a touchdown pass during the team’s signature 62-20 win over the Oregon Ducks.
While the Utes are coming off their biggest disappointment of the season, they should have the firepower at home to get back to their winning ways against Oregon State in this game. Do the Beavers have any answers that can help them stage a serious upset and notch their first conference victory of the season?
Prediction: Utah 35, Oregon State 24
