Amidst a disappointing 2015 campaign for the Arizona State Sun Devils, big news came out of the Valley of the Sun to change the tide for the season and the football team’s future. Top Arizona high school prospect, N’Keal Harry, announced his commitment to the Sun Devils in the cafeteria of Chandler High School, in Chandler, Ariz. — a place that been a fundamental piece of Harry’s life.
Harry is not only a five-star prospect, he’s the No. 2 wide receiver in the entire country and No. 20 overall according to Rivals.com. Harry will be the biggest recruit under head coach Todd Graham, who continues to make the Sun Devils a force to be reckoned with, despite the mediocre performance this season. Harry chose to stay home instead of committing to other offers from Washington, Oregon, USC and Texas A&M This could be a big trend for 2016, as the Sun Devils have recently had bad luck lassoing the major Arizona prospects. Rumors are already swirling that Harry will bring fellow Chandler teammate and four-star athlete Chase Lucas, along with four-star lights out corner Byron Murphy from Scottsdale’s Saguaro High School. Neither have yet to make a commitment.
Harry has become good friends with Sun Devils freshman quarterback Bryce Perkins, which is a major reason Harry stayed true to Arizona State. Another major factor is his grandmother that has raised him since the age of four when she brought him to Arizona from the Caribbean island of St. Vincent. Staying close to her was an essential part of this commitment process.
The 6-foot-3, 211-pound receiver is just what Arizona State will need to fill the holes that will be left by the departures D.J. Foster and Devin Lucien. His unique combination of speed, strength and ball skills could make him an instant weapon for the Sun Devils’ offense as he is primed to join breakout speedster Tim White and top 2015 recruit Terrell Chatman, who has yet to play in a game this season but brings a similar size and skillset as Harry.
So it’s not all doom and gloom, Sun Devils fans. A bright future lies is on the horizon.
