LSU Tigers‘ Leonard Fournette has had a magical season … if you don’t include the contest against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Thanks to Alabama’s fierce defense playing at an elite level, the Heisman race is now wide open.
One game doesn’t decide who wins or loses the Heisman, but one must remember that the Heisman Trophy race is all about the what-have-you-done-for-me-lately scheme.
If you asked Fournette’s stats that, you would come up with this answer: 31 yards and one touchdown.
Having a human-like game isn’t what was so costly to Fournette’s Heisman hopes. This was: Derrick Henry had a monster outing in the same exact game.
Henry, who has been in the race all season, rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns against LSU. He clearly won this battle, and so did his team.
Here’s the deal: The Tigers might have been brought back down to Earth, but Fournette is still the Heisman leader (for the time being) and LSU still has a chance at the playoff.
However, the Tigers no longer control their destiny, and players like Henry have completely caught up in the Heisman department. Basically, we are all in store for a wild finish, where literally anything is possible. After all, the Michigan State Spartans just got done losing to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the TCU Horned Frogs went down this weekend and upsets are clearly a weekly trend.
