Well hello, Oklahoma Sooners and Baker Mayfield.
The Sooners have had a rather solid (yet quiet) season, and now they have a shot at the College Football Playoff. As a result of that, and the fact that Mayfield has been a stud all season, Mayfield could end up stealing the Heisman Trophy.
Mayfield’s name has somewhat been in the discussions in 2015, but now he is one of the top contenders. That tends to happen when a QB helps lead his team to five victories in a row. It certainly doesn’t hurt that Oklahoma plays in the Big 12 and that Mayfield is a QB. After all, QBs tend to take home the hardware.
Coming off of a huge victory against the Baylor Bears, Oklahoma must now take care of business against the TCU Horned Frogs and Oklahoma State Cowboys. If the Sooners can do that, they might end up in the playoff, and Mayfield might end up winning a trophy that he hasn’t been given much consideration for until now.
Mayfield now has 3,082 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, 301 rushing yards and six rushing TDs.
Of course, players like Deshaun Watson, Derrick Henry, Leonard Fournette, Christian McCaffrey, Ezekiel Elliott and others are still very much alive.
Side note: If the Sooners beat Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma State in back-to-back-to-back games, there is no way the committee can leave them out of the playoff, right? Right?!
