2015 has been a tough year for Trevone Boykin and the TCU Horned Frogs. Entering the year, Gary Patterson‘s club was expected to win the Big-12 and clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff. Unfortunately, a surprising loss to Oklahoma State, followed by an injury to Boykin, left the Horned Frogs with a 10-2 record and a bid in the Alamo Bowl against Oregon on Saturday.
Two days prior to that bowl game, things have turned from bad to worse as Boykin was arrested for third-degree felony assault and assaulting a public servant following his involvement in a bar fight in San Antonio. Patterson immediately suspended his quarterback for the team’s bowl game upon hearing word of the incident.
Per AP:
A police report said the 22-year-old Boykin was fighting with employees at a bar, but people he was with told officers they would take him back to his hotel.
Police said Boykin then charged at responding officers and swung at one before he was taken to the ground. The report also said Boykin resisted arrest until he was told they would use a stun gun on him.
Patterson also released a statement:
“Trevone Boykin and [junior wide receiver] Preston Miller have been suspended for Saturday’s game due to a violation of team rules. We are disappointed in their actions and apologize to the TCU Horned Frogs Nation, Valero Alamo Bowl and city of San Antonio.”
For a guy that had so much promise, this is an extremely sad way to see his college career end.
