The Michigan Wolverines are getting an early start on next year’s recruiting class, picking up a commitment from four-star Colorado quarterback Dylan McCaffrey.
You might be thinking that surname sounds familiar. That’s because Dylan is the younger brother of Stanford tailback and 2015 Heisman finalist, Christian McCaffrey. In fact, the athlete gene runs deeper in the family as their father, Ed McCaffrey, is a three-time Super Bowl champion wide receiver with the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos. His eldest brother, Max, is a senior wide receiver at Duke and his younger brother Luke is a freshman at Valor Christian High School where Dylan is currently enrolled.
McCaffrey is the second-ranked quarterback in the nation and has had offers from a long list of schools, most notably Stanford and Duke in which he has family ties. He also received offers from other Big Ten schools such as Nebraska, Penn State, Northwestern and Rutgers.
The young signal-caller is currently the fifth hard commit to Jim Harbaugh in the class of 2017, according to 247Sports. He joins OT JaRaymond Hall, RB Kurt Taylor, TE Carter Dunaway and CB Benjamin St-Juste.
The Wolverines also have a quarterback enrolled as a member of the class of 2016. Brandon Peters is a four-star pro-style passer from Avon, Ind. Other notable quarterbacks currently on the roster include junior Houston transfer John O’Korn, sophomore Wilton Speight and freshman Alex Malzone. Harbaugh may have a quarterback problem brewing in Ann Arbor, but it’s the kind of issue a lot of programs would love to have.
