Nebraska women’s basketball team is not quite on the streak that they were last season, but they are still making strides as they continue to revamp after losing many quality seniors two seasons ago. Thankfully for the Big Red, there’s a new breed of young Huskers in town who could be better than all of them.
Jordan Hooper and Emily Cady are two young players who have the opportunity to do what that Husker team could not do two seasons ago, win and advance deep into the NCAAW’s version of March Madness. These two young players have what it takes, as I was able to see both of them up close and personal in the State Playoffs in consecutive seasons.
Jordan Hooper is a great young player for the Lady Huskers. She can shoot the ball from anywhere on the court and has the ability to create her own shot. She is averaging nearly 20 points per game, while shooting at approximately 43%. She is also shooting approximately 35% from the three point line. Hooper is only going to get better as she progresses throughout her career in Lincoln.
Emily Cady is averaging just over 15 points in her freshmen season, and like Hooper, is only going to get better as she continues to grow in the Husker program. Cady averages nearly six rebounds per game and is a reason why the Huskers have been able to get off to a great start at 16-3, including a 16-3 start.
Nebraska had a pair of tough games against Penn State and Ohio State. They are currently sitting at 5-2 in the conference, two games behind leader Purdue. The Huskers sit at #21 right now in the ESPN/USA today coaches poll, and #19 in the Associated Press. With the schedule that Nebraska has had, they are ready for whatever comes their way in the March Madness.
