Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver Dwayne Bowe is the biggest threat to the New England Patriots tonight with Devin McCourty out.  The Chiefs offense is really really weak.  Matt Cassel, Jamaal Charles, and tight end Tony Moeaki are all out for the year.  Moeaki was out before the year started, Charles got injured early, and Cassel got put on IR recently.

The Chiefs receivers have a huge advantage over New England’s secondary though with McCourty out and Patrick Chung listed as questionable.  Dwayne Bowe and Jonathan Baldwin are both capable of making big plays.  Baldwin has the potential to develop into a #1 primary flanker target for Matt Cassel in 2012 if Kansas City parts ways with Bowe.  Baldwin only has 6 receptions and Bowe is in a contract year.  Steve Breaston is best suited at slot, but can also contribute as a #2 receiver.  Kansas City signed him to a long term deal so I get the feeling that these 3 receivers could cause some havoc.  Baldwin did struggle at Pittsburgh during his junior year mainly due to mediocre quarterback play.

The Chiefs pass blocking on the offensive line was very good early in the season due to Charlie Weis’s ability to coordinate the assignments of the pass blockers.  Kansas City’s offensive line looks like they need to add more depth.  New England has Andre Carter who has 8.5 sacks and Mark Anderson who has 5.5 sacks.  That’s an advantage towards New England.

Key #1 Tyler Palko’s Decision Making Tyler Palko has the receivers to rip New England’s secondary to shreds.  The problem is he is going up against a really underrated pass rushing unit.  Carter and Anderson may not be long term solutions.  These veterans provide a pass rushing presence in 2011 that the Patriots desperately needed.

Key #2 Chiefs Running Game Even without Charles, the Chiefs running game will still be effective.  The Chiefs run a legit run blocking scheme and have an effective #2 back in Thomas Jones.  Jones needs to play like a workhorse tonight with 20 carries and over 100 yards keeping Tom Brady off the field if Kansas City is going to win.

Key #3 Chiefs Offensive Time Of Possession Brady has the ability to torch the Chiefs secondary.  Eric Berry is out and Brandon Flowers is listed as questionable.  The Chiefs have to win the time of possession.  If New England can limit the Chiefs time of possession they should win the game with relative ease.

Kansas City Chiefs Offense VS New England Patriots Defense Summary

New England has a huge edge on Kansas City in the trenches.  The Patriots have an under the radar pass rushing unit that people count out just because they lack a blue chip sack artist.  The Chiefs pass blocking was good early in 2010, but began to regress near the end of the season.  The Chiefs pass blocking has continued to collapse since that point.

Kansas City may not be able to give Tyler Palko enough time to make the throws.  Kansas City does posses the receivers to exploit New England’s secondary.

How quick Kansas City’s receivers exploit New England’s secondary on plays will be critical because it could determine if Palko gets no pressure or a lot of pressure in his face on plays.
