HTW: Devils’ Brodeur Upstages Lundqvist and Rangers
The New Jersey Devils took care of the New York Rangers in convincing fashion. It my HockeyThisWeek.com recap I took a look back at what went right for Martin Brodeur and the Devils.
If the New York Rangers (42-16-7) expected to come out and cruise their way to another win over cross-state rivals the New Jersey Devils (37-24-5), they were sadly mistaken.
The Devils came out swinging defeating the Rangers 4-1 to earn their third victory in five meetings this season. New Jersey was aggressive from the start setting the tone in the first period with two fights including one that knocked Rangers forward Brandon Dubinsky out of the game.
Two quick goals in the third period put the game away when “Ranger Killer” David Clarkson and Ryan Carter scored 1:54 apart to wake up New Jersey’s anemic offense. Clarkson now has three goals and an assist to go along with 26 penalty minutes against New York this season.
Unlike last weeks 2-0 loss at Madison Square Garden in which the Devils only through 13 shot on Henrik Lundqvist, the Devils came out firing.
Ilya Kovalchuk bested the Rangers star netminder just .49 seconds into the game sending a charge through the Prudential Center crowd and snapping New York back into reality.
