HTW: New Jersey Devils Can Clinch a Playoff Birth Tonight
The New Jersey Devils don’t have to wait and see what happens around the rest of the league. A return trip to the postseason is within reach and it’s up to them to make it happen.
A single point tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes will do the trick.
In my game preview for HockeyThisWeek.com I take a look at what else the Devils have to look forward to in the final week and a half of the season.
One point is all the New Jersey Devils need to return to the playoffs. Just one year removed from missing the postseason for the first time in 13 years, the Devils are in position to make their triumphant return.
The Devils look to clinch a playoff berth on Saturday against the already eliminated Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena.
Currently sixth in the Eastern Conference, New Jersey (44-28-6) needs just one point in its final four games to qualify for the playoffs. They would prefer not to drag it out any longer and just get it done today.
The Devils moved closer to the postseason by beating Tampa Bay 6-4 on Thursday but were denied the chance to qualify when the Washington Capitals defeated the Boston Bruins in a shootout. Now the ability to clinch lies is solely in New Jersey’s own hands.
Martin Brodeur will get the start in net as he attempts to hit the 30-win mark for the 14th time in his magnificent career. With 28 wins, Brodeur would have to start and win at least two of the Devils final four games.
Brodeur is not the only player chasing down personal milestones in the final week and a half of the season….
To find out who else has a chance to reach a new milestone please finish ready my Devils Report on Hockey This Week.
