The New Orleans Saints signed veteran tight end Daniel Graham to bolster their depth at tight end. Graham will be backing up the other “Graham”, Jimmy Graham to be exact, and his experience will be a valuable asset to the team. Daniel Graham is an 11-year NFL veteran and has had long stints with the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos. Last season Graham spent the season with the Tennessee Titans and appeared in all 16 games.
For his career Daniel Graham has had 224 receptions for 2,490 yards and 25 touchdowns. Standing at 6’3″ 257 pounds Graham is not the quickest tight end but he is a big body that has good hands. However, Daniel Graham is known more for his blocking abilities than receiving.
Graham will be a perfect fit in New Orleans as the Saints have a pass heavy offense and superstar tight end Jimmy Graham. Daniel Graham will complement Jimmy Graham nicely and he can mentor the young star. Jimmy Graham will get most of the passes between the two but Daniel Graham will be able to come in and block for Drew Brees. Furthermore, if the Saints go with a two tight end lineup Daniel Graham will provide blocking for Jimmy Graham to get open.
Daniel Graham’s blocking ability will be huge for the Saints because it is such a luxury to have a tight end that is also a great blocker. Daniel Graham will take the pressure off of Jimmy Graham to block and that will in turn open up the game for Jimmy Graham to get even more receptions.
I love the pickup of Daniel Graham because he has great experience and will provide great depth at the tight end position. Daniel Graham was a smart acquisition because he is a proven veteran and gives the Saints another dimension at the tight end position.
