Legend Jerry Rice Calls New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs ‘Soft’
You have to love it when former players start to weigh in on an important game like this weekend’s NFC Championship, but former San Francisco 49er Jerry Rice is barking up the wrong tree.
When doing a spot on Sportscenter about the matchup between the New York Giants and the 49ers, Rice commented that the rain in the forecast will favor the 49ers because Brandon Jacobs is “a little bit soft.”
“That [favors] San Francisco. I like Ahmad Bradshaw, I like Brandon Jacobs but I feel like Brandon Jacobs is a little bit soft.”
“[Jacobs] can’t get away from a defender,” Rice added. “This guy is 265 and it upsets me when I see him get tackled by a guy that’s like 190 or 200 pounds.”
Look, I’m never going to take anything away from what Jerry Rice did on the field, but as an analyst he is awful.
He offers little more than clichés for answers and is not very articulate. I’m not going to say he is not smart, but he doesn’t come off very intelligent when he is on air.
Rice is the type of analyst that talks a lot but doesn’t say anything, if you catch my drift.
Going after Brandon Jacobs is not something the current 49ers team is going to appreciate. When Jacobs runs angry he can be very punishing.
That may not intimidate the 49ers and their No. 1 ranked rush defense, but I wouldn’t want to tackle Jacobs this weekend after that comment.
