New York Giants Targeted PR Kyle Williams in NFC Championship?
Apparently the New York Giants knew there was an opportunity to change the game when they found out Kyle Williams would be returning kicks and punts for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
Two players who spent most of their time on special teams this year admitted they were trying to hit Williams a bit more violently because they knew he had a history of concussions.
Jacquian Williams, who had the strip of Williams in overtime to set up the game winning field goal, had this to say on the matter.
“The thing is, we knew he had four concussions, so that was our biggest thing, was to take him outta the game.”
Devin Thomas, who recovered both Williams’ fumbles that led to 10 points for the Giants, elaborated on the subject.
“We were just like, ‘We gotta put a hit on that guy.’ [Tyler] Sash did a great job hitting him early and he looked kind of dazed when he got up. I feel like that made a difference and he coughed it up.”
People are taking this the wrong way, accusing the Giants of dirty play and excess violence. If you actually watched the game you would see they never made any attempts at his head nor made illegal hits on him.
This is not some revelation the Giants’ special team players had overnight; guys that play injured are often targeted—it is part of the game.
If you’re afraid of the violence then you’re watching the wrong sport.
You have to feel sorry for Williams because he must feel like he cost his team the game, but nothing the Giants did prior to those fumbles caused him to fumble.

But the thing is, is that Kyle Williams dad Kenny Williams who is GM of the Chicago Whitesox, said, “He thinks he may have separated his shoulder in the third quarter, so he is in the training room.” What I am trying to say is if he knew that his shoulder was hurt why even take it out, and cost your team the chance of playing in the super bowl.
