Prior to the 2011 season, Brandon Jacobs took a $1.7 million pay cut in order to stay with the Giants, helping them re-sign Ahmad Bradshaw in the process. Evidently, he is willing to do the same in 2012.
Jacobs has a $500,000 roster bonus set to kick in if he is still with the team in March, on top of his $4.4 million salary he is set to collect in 2012. He obviously does not think the Giants will keep him making that kind of money.
The Giants franchise leader in rushing touchdowns says he is open to another pay cut, “as long as it’s fair.”
“I just want everything to be fair. I feel like I put a lot of hard work and dedication into what I do as well and whatever their plans are to try to keep me around here, hopefully we can get it discussed and get things figured out because this is where I want to be.”
“I wish things can go great to where I can continue to be a Giant. I started with the Giants, I would like to finish with them.”
“As an organization, they have been doing this stuff for years and they know what they have to do if they want to keep me around and indeed I want to be around. I want to retire as a Giant. Those guys have been working in the business long enough to know what they have to do to make it happen.”
Oddly, Jacobs listed one team he would like to play for if the Giants did not retain him, and it is the last team you would think—the New York Jets.
If you remember, after the Giants beat the Jets on Christmas he and Jets coach Rex Ryan had a heated verbal exchange on the field, but Jacobs still wouldn’t mind playing for the cross town rival.
“I wouldn’t count it out,” he told the New York Daily News. “I like the way Rex handles his business. I don’t hold a grudge. It was a situation. We were rivals then. There’s no apology needed.”
That said, Jacobs made it clear he wants to retire a member of the New York Giants.

I have kids, it may be tough to pick them up and move them to another site.”
“I want to finish a Giant and my kids can finish going to school where they are going to school,” he added. “My wife loves it here. I want to finish up here. I don’t know what their plans are, I do know it is a business first. I am just waiting to hear what is going to happen.”
