Victor Cruz vs. Brandon Carr: New York Giants WR Takes High Road
New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was a featured act of Nike’s unveiling of the 2012 NFL uniforms. He was asked to salsa dance multiple times, refuted claims he would hold out for a new contract, and even responded to Brandon Carr’s trash talk.
The Dallas Cowboys‘ prized acquisition of NFL free agency wasted no time talking smack about one of their hated rivals, the Giants, and Cruz in particular.
“I want to use all my body,” Carr said. “I’m six-foot, 200 pounds. I know he’s got to run through me to get wherever he’s running, so I’m going to be patient at the line. All that salsa dancing, that’s fine, but you’ve got to come through me.”
“I don’t plan on seeing no dancing.”
Tough words from a tough man. Though Cruz is not a slouch himself—he finished third in the NFL with 1,536 receiving yards which set a franchise record.
Although Carr went public to say he’s not going to see Cruz do any dancing, Cruz took the high road in true Giants form.
“It’s cool. I understand guys are going to talk, but it’s only April, man. We still got a long way to go. I’ll just let all my talking go on the field.”
Speaking of Cruz’ contract, though he admits he wants a raise, he also says he is not worried about the contract and will go on business as usual. He is the perfect example of a fantastic teammate; someone who does not put himself above the team.
“I’m not frustrated at all. I’m just trying to go in there and play football. When I was young it wasn’t about money, it wasn’t about fame and fortune. It was just about playing football. So regardless of how short-term this career can be, I just want to go out there and play. All of that stuff will take care of itself.”
