New York Giants Corner Terrell Thomas May Not Have Torn ACL After All
News broke early this week that Terrell Thomas, one of the New York Giants top defenders, had torn his ACL again, the very same knee he was attempting to return from. Thomas injured his ACL in the preseason last year and missed the entire campaign. Reports all year long continuously indicated his rehab was on track to bring him back by training camp.
He was cleared to practice shortly before camp begun, but this past Sunday re-aggravated the knee and was forced to sit out. When he showed up the next morning with swelling, the Giants asked him to go to New York for an emergency MRI, which supposedly revealed at least a partial tear of his ACL.
Well, after having the knee evaluated by Dr. Arthur Ting, who performed his surgery last year, Thomas may not have a tear and he could play this season.
Thomas is scheduled to meet with Dr. James Andrews in Florida next Tuesday to get a third evaluation, but as far as we know this is great news.
Giants head coach Tom Coughlin does not seem too excited about the news, but is holding out hope Thomas can play.
“His knee is going to require some time,” Coughlin said. “It is not likely tomorrow morning something is going to happen. I’m always going to hope [for the best]. I have enough information, though, to counter some of that hope. I will always hold out hope.”
So things may not be as bad as they first seemed, but it appears we’ll find out more when Thomas visits Andrews on Tuesday.
