New York Giants Could Put Terrell Thomas On New IR
Terrell Thomas and the New York Giants may benefit from a new injury rule this year. The rule hasn’t been collectively bargained yet, but if/when it comes into effect, the Giants could use it. The proposed new injured reserve rule that you can place a player on the IR and activate him at some point during the season. That appears where we are headed with Thomas.
Thomas re-injured his surgically repaired ACL early on in camp. He was examined by Dr. James Andrews, possibly the worst three words in sports, and turns out he didn’t re-tear it. However, he is injured and will miss some time.
Thomas can be on this new IR for a few weeks during the season but can be activated at any point. With this IR you’re going to be on it longer than the PUP list which is six weeks, which teams will start using as the season draws closer. The PUP list right now can be used at any time and you can be taken off of it at any time. In September, if you are put on it you are automatically out the first six weeks of the season.
Thomas is very important to the Giants success this year. They are younger and aren’t as deep at the corner position with Aaron Ross gone. Prince Amukamara will have to start and rookie Jayron Hosley will play as well. Thomas has led the team in tackles in the past and they could use some help in that end this year too.
