Hakeem Nicks Passes Physical, Activated from PUP List
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin thought Hakeem Nicks would be back soon, but he did not know he would be back this soon.
The PUP-listed receiver was activated Monday afternoon after passing a physical. Nicks must sit out the mandatory three days of padded practice, according to NFL rules, before beginning full participation with the team for the first time this season.
Nicks has spent the first few weeks of Giants training camp on the physically unable to perform list due to a broken foot he suffered in the offseason. He recently began running routes and catching passes from the training staff.
Nicks will be eligible to practice this Friday, but will obviously not be available for the Giants’ preseason matchup with the New York Jets. The star receiver’s target date for his return has been the season opener on September 5th against the Dallas Cowboys. However, ESPN New York’s Dan Graziano speculates that he may be ready to go for one of the Giants’ final two preseason games.
He has been a primary option for quarterback Eli Manning in the Giants passing game, eclipsing 70 catches and 1,000 yards receiving in each of the past two seasons. At 24, Nicks can only improve and is expected to once again combine with the salsa-dancing Victor Cruz to form of the NFL’s most lethal receiving duos.
Nicks’ progress is a positive sign that he is on pace to be ready when the season gets underway with the hope of bringing home another Super Bowl trophy in just a few long months.
