NFL Rumors: Are the New York Giants Leaving Albany For Good?
The New York Giants are concluding their camp portion of the preseason in Albany and heading back down to the friendly confines of New Jersey to conclude the rest of the preseason. Now the question remains, is that the last time they will train there?
The team’s contract with SUNY Albany concludes at the end of this year. The Giants built a brand new practice facility right near Metlife Stadium where they held training camp last year due to the lockout. The Giants had issues with practicing at Albany when it rained, due to a lack of an indoor facility. There are also reports of players being uncomfortable with the beds in the dorms which has led to some back injuries. (If you’ve ever slept in a dorm bed you’d agree. They’re not comfortable for regular humans let alone football players).
I understand why teams want to go and train outside of where they practice. They wanna build team unity and have the guys get to know each other and that kind of thing. In this case though, when you build a new facility for your guys to practice at you may as well take advantage of it. There’s no reason not to use it. It’s unfortunate for the city of Albany because it helps their economy with Giants fans coming up and watching the team practice, however the Giants should do what’s best for them. I think the best thing for the Giants to do is stay home for training camp. Use the new facility and train here. Hey, it worked last year didn’t it?
