New York Giants’ Hakeem Nicks Returns To Practice
The New York Giants received some good news today when Hakeem Nicks returned to practice for the first time all preseason. Nicks passed his physical last Monday and was removed the PUP list, however, NFL rules dictate that players just removed from the PUP list have to be limited the first three days that they practice.
The Giants had said when Nicks got hurt that it would take about 12 weeks for him to get back. It’s been 12 weeks since the initial injury during OTA’s so he’ll be back on schedule. He’s going to need to get back his timing with quarterback Eli Manning. It doesn’t really matter how many years you’ve played, running routes is one thing, but to have timing with the quarterback after three months is another.
Nicks may not play in the Giants final two preseason games. I think it may be a good idea for him to get out there for a series or two in the final preseason game. Practice is one thing, but game conditions are another and it may be smart to get out there before the season opener.
Nicks caught a total of 104 balls if you combine regular and postseason last year. He hasn’t done anything since OTA’s so he will need to get some timing back. A healthy Nicks is vital to the Giants success. For the focus that went on Victor Cruz last year, Nicks has been a steady and consistent performer since the Giants drafted him. He has his injury issues throughout his career, however, when he’s on the field, he produces.
