The New York Giants will continue to have a different look along the offensive line as Sean Locklear will start at left tackle Wednesday night. Will Beatty, who has missed a lot of time due to a back ailment, probably won’t be playing.
Here is offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride on the decision.
“With William out the entire preseason, all of a sudden he moved up to the starting position and has played real well,” Gilbride said of Locklear. “He hasn’t hurt us in the pass game at all. His protection has been excellent. He’s been one of the better performers in pass protection.”
That’s all well and good but he didn’t face anyone nearly as good as DeMarcus Ware, who he will be matched up with on Wednesday.
I think I’d rather have David Diehl on the left with Locklear on the right. Diehl has more experience facing him and having him and former Dallas Cowboy Martellus Bennett chip on Ware would be the way to go. Diehl has played all over the offensive line and Locklear has a quite a bit of experience on the right side.
Granted, the coaches see these guys every day and Locklear has played well throughout the preseason. I would just make the more cautious play and go with the guy who has done the job in the past for the New York Giants
