Who is Jason Hill?
That’s all Darrelle Revis wants to know.
Hill, a journeyman wide receiver currently playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars, took a shot at the New York Jets’ All-Pro cornerback, calling him “overhyped” and insinuating that he’s merely a product of a big media market.
“This is a league full of great players,” Hill said on Thursday. “I think sometimes they get overhyped. I talked to Drew [Coleman, a former Jet], Drew played there. He says it’s just the aura of New York. They got a big media. That’s not the Jacksonville paper, that’s the big New York Times paper so they get more pub. That’s what it is.”
“He been playing the game, Revis, just as long as I’ve been playing,” Hill continued. “This is a game full of good players making plays. He just made a lot more plays on TV than we’ve made being here in Jacksonville.”
First of all, it’s laughable to me that Drew Coleman would be talking trash about Revis. Coleman couldn’t cover yours truly, much less any half-decent NFL receiver.
Secondly, Jason Hill is a sixth-year wide receiver with 55 career catches. LaDainian Tomlinson, a running back, had 52 catches for the Jets just last season.
And the most amazing part of his comments is the fact that Hill is listed as doubtful to play on Sunday against the Jets. Even if he was trying to get himself hyped up for the game, it doesn’t look like he’s even going to play as he deals with a hip injury.
Why rile up Revis, one of the game’s premiere players, for no reason whatsoever? Well, that’s the Jaguars’ problem now.
Revis responded in memorable fashion when asked about the comments made by Hill.
“I don’t even know who that dude is. What’s his name again? I have no clue,” Revis said. “I don’t know who he is, whatever he said is what he said. Whatever his opinion is of us, we’ll find out on Sunday. I don’t care what he says, I don’t know him. He don’t know me, he don’t know the Jets, so he’ll find out on Sunday.”
Revis is the type of player who rarely does his trash talking through the media. He prefers to let his play do the talking, and quite frankly, his play speaks for itself. It’s pretty curious that a guy who isn’t even going to play this week is taking shots at him.
“He shouldn’t have been talking in the first place, because he can’t back it up now,” Revis said.
Instead, it will be Hill’s teammates that will have to deal with Revis.
Good luck with that.
