The New York Jets have officially placed starting outside linebacker Bryan Thomas on injured reserve after he suffered a torn Achilles in the Jets’ Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Thomas, a versatile player who was a big part of the Jets’ run defense, is the longest tenured Jet now that Shaun Ellis is in New England.
Without him, the Jets are expected to rotate guys like Jamaal Westermann and Aaron Maybin in that outside linebacker spot, with guys like Garrett McIntyre and even Bart Scott taking snaps out there as well.
McIntyre is out with a concussion this week, so the Jets have replaced Thomas’s roster spot with undrafted rookie linebacker Eddie Jones out of the University of Texas.
Jones was in camp with the Jets this season and recovered a fumble in the final preseason game. He was waived in September before re-signing to the practice squad a few weeks ago.
