“The Jets will be back”? What does that mean? It’s like the Jets have had great success and have taken a small step back. That’s nonsense. When’s the last time they won something? A division title? Not in your lifetime. An AFC title? Again, not in your lifetime. A Super Bowl? Yeah, right. And one other thing, what’s this “Play like a Jet” garbage? Does that mean play like a loser because that’s all this franchise has done for decades. Take a reality check buddy, you’ve had way too much Kool aid.
I guess reaching the Conference Championship back-to-back years is nothing special to you? Agree to disagree. There’s a reason that in the last three seasons, the Jets were the only team to reach that round twice. It’s extremely difficult to do. There is so much turnover in the NFL each year that even the best teams from one year can completely implode and underachieve the following year. I’m glad a New York Giants fan could take the time to comment though. You guys know first-hand about teams that can underachieve and collapse one year (or two, or three) and then bounce-back. It’s not impossible. I’m very confident the Jets will be a playoff team and have a chance to go on a deep playoff run. I think I’ve laid that out pretty clearly.
Hey Jon, I’ve done my job very well. I BS’ed all those knucklehead Jets fans, got them to buy expensive PSL’s at Giants Stadium, bailed out an owner, who but for my BS, would be sucking wind. So that other guy is right, it’s the Same Old Jets, except now 80,000 jerks cough up big dollars to watch the same old losing and help pay for a brand new Giants stadium.
Unless the Giants would like to pay off the rest of the debt on MetLife Stadium, it will always be a shared home of two outstanding franchises. Embrace it!
Jon my friend, the man is right. This is a Big Blue town and your Jetsies will always be tenants at Giants stadium. They said the would kick us out and that we’d have to play at the Nassau Coliseum unless I raised half the money. I had no choice!
In actuality, the two ownership groups co-financed the stadium together and have a mutual respect and admiration for each other. The Jets and Giants are roommates, not rivals. All in good fun, of course.
Of course you agree. You’re the same Giants fan responding to yourself. Again, thanks for reading and taking the time to offer your thoughts. We’ll agree to disagree.
I’m with Jerry and Tom on this one. Although I do understand what it means to “Play like a Jet.” You extort a lot of money from a clueless owner and GM and then play like a dog. Nothing will ever changes. As they say, “Same Old Jets.”
Jonster, I’m just bringing some light into the darkness of Jetland. You look young enough to correct the errors of your ways and to realize that you’ve been defrauded by Rex the snake oil salesmen and clueless but greedy Woody. Oh, and by the way, how about dem Mets!
Again, I appreciate your continued efforts, but I’ll respectfully decline. The Jets are a first class organization that had a bad season. It happens all the time, it’s not something unique to my team. Rex Ryan is a terrific coach, and the Jets have a great core to build on for the future. You can dismiss them if you want, but they’re not going away any time soon.
Jon, you’re a good sport and I agree that you’re better suited to be a Jets fan (hmm, what does he mean by that?). Just kidding with you. Next season should be fun and for different reasons I guess we can agree that we both hope Rex continues to be Rex.
No worries. All in good fun. Believe it or not, I like the dynamic between Jets fans and Giants fans. It’s fun to have this back and forth. Believe me, there’s nothing I’d love to see more than my beloved Jets in a Super Bowl. If they were able to meet the Giants in the big game, even better! How about in MetLife Stadium at Super Bowl XLVIII in two years? A man can dream, huh?
Jon–Rex is an insecure, disrespectful ass. He basically tried to embrass Coughlin by saying the Jets were better than the Giants and this was “a Jet City”. He did this at a time when Coughlin was getting ripped apart and was close to being fired. To attempt to embrass a class individual like Coughlin and an organization like the Giants (covering there Super Bowls/stating they were the better team) when Coughlin never said a negative word about Rex or the Jets, is unprofessional. I hope he gets what he was trying to do to Coughlin–Get Fired!!!
Rex is often misunderstood. Jets fans have heard for years that they were New York’s “second” team, and when Rex Ryan got here, that started to change. Suddenly, the Jets were the team going on deep playoff runs, while the Giants were struggling down the stretch and blowing big games, finding themselves out of the playoffs those same two seasons.
It was at that point that Ryan wrote in his book that the Jets were New York’s top team, because they were. He wrote that he planned on being a legitimate contender for the next 8 to 10 years, something that is still not out of the question, even with a down year like the 2011 season was.
Ryan never once insulted Tom Coughlin or tried to embarrass him. Mind you, this book was written in 2010 and was released in May of 2011, months before the Jets and Giants were playing one another in December. Ryan’s has always had nothing but praise and respect for the Giants organization, their owners, their history as a franchise, and their coach and quarterback.
He’s never once insulted anybody on any team, certainly not in 2011, and certainly not intentionally. Don’t believe the media as they try to misconstrue Rex Ryan’s intentions. All he’s ever done as head coach is try to motivate his team. He does not put down or say derogatory things about anyone on any other team. He simply does not do that.
Ryan would never try to get a contemporary fired, especially one he holds in such high regard like Tom Coughlin. Coughlin, for the record, is as you say a class individual. His players on the other hand, (Brandon Jacobs and Antrel Rolle come to mind) could use a little more of Coughlin’s verbal discipline when they speak out in the media. But that’s neither here nor there.
I ask you, what would you have Rex do? Would you prefer him say “well, our team isn’t very good” or “our team is never going to win a Super Bowl” ? He’s a very confident coach and he’s confident in his ability and his players’ abilities. There’s nothing wrong with believing in your team. You may not like the way he expresses himself publicly, but as I’ve written, it appears he’s going to tone that done a little more going forward.
He can say exactly what Coughlin has said…we will play Giant football. You say Rex is misunderstood? Ask the Chargers and Turner if he doesn’t put others down to try to build himself up. It’s always about him–never the team. If he didn’t insult people, why do so many feel disrespected. I know–they’re all wrong;Rex is just a sweetheart. The whole Ryan family has always made it about them–never the team. No other coaches have continually made headlines for statements instead of results. Ryan will fail just like Daddy–and then he’ll blame everyone but himself.
If you think I’m being disingenuous, please, by all means find me a direct quote from the horse’s mouth that contradicts what I’ve said. Norv Turner and Rex Ryan are friendly, and when Ryan made his comments praising the Chargers organization in October, he worded it badly and quickly realized that it could be misinterpreted as taking a shot at Turner. Ryan called Turner as soon as that conference call ended, before Turner had even heard the comments, to apologize and clarify that he meant no disrespect. You keep saying that he insults people and disrespects them, I ask you to back that up with irrefutable evidence. Otherwise, I’ll continue to set the record straight. The only disrespectful comments I hear are coming from you, towards him.
Stating that the Chargers would have won a Super Bowl by now if they hadn’t made the mistake of hiring Turner instead of him may be considered praise by you. Turner certainly didn’t take it as praise and fired back about all of rings Rex has.
Rex has made comments over the years about Belicheck, Brady, Peyton Manning etc–the common thread is always that these guys never mention him.
And again, I never heard a Giant say a word about the Jets for years. Coughlin has never mentioned the Jets or Ryan ever–they are irrelevant to each others success or failure. Coaches (at least secure ones) don’t get caught up in the childish noise of fans and even some players. Rex used the failures of the last 2 years of the Giants as a way to build up whatever successs the Jets have had. Why? Why, when the Giants have basically ignored the Jets, would he use the press to point out Coughlin’s failures?
From Brown to Halas to Lombardi, Shula, Landry, Knoll, Walsh, Gibbs to Belicheck–great coaches have a class and security about them. They never got into pissing contests about legacies. They never had to remind anyone they were successful. They never acted like any of the Ryans. Rex and Rob act just like their Dad. They make everything about them. How many times does Rex or Rob have to tell us they are and have been winners? Winners normally do not have to remind people–it’s just understood.
Can you imagine how Rex would have acted if they had this Giant run? How many back handed comments would he have made abot the Giants? Coughlin has always taken the high road, even if players always haven’t–but coaches are supposed to hold themselves to a higher standard. Rex lowers himself when he engages players from other teams.
Look–I’ll let it go. I have no respect for the man. He is a decent coach, but thats all at this point. I would just appreciate if he would quit telling us all what a winner he is until he wins something–hell, even a division title would be a start.
Again, you’re misconstruing what he actually said with what you’ve heard relayed from second-hand sources. You can find the quotes yourself if you’re so inclined, but everything you’re alleging he “said” is simply false.
He did not say anything near to the degree you’re accusing him of saying. If you find me a quote from the man himself, I’ll happily explain the context of it, because 90% of the things the media reports about him are taken out of their proper context and sensationalized to sell papers, so to speak.
Rex Ryan is different from his father. He’s also different from his brother. It’s not fair to any of the Ryan men to paint them all with such a broad brush. Was Buddy brasher, bolder & more in-your-face than his contemporaries in his time? Sure. But Rex is similar, not the exact same
Rex Ryan has his style, which obviously you can either take or leave. There’s no denying he is a very smart football coach and a very good X’s and O’s guy. His defensive units year in and year out prove that.
You accuse him of backhanded comments and disrespect yet how can you be objective when you clearly don’t respect him or care enough to actually get your facts straight instead of rehashing lazy talking points that you heard from somebody who heard from someone else.
With all due respect, Tim, you may not like him because he’s different from your image of what a coach should be, but belittling and downplaying his accomplishments because you don’t like him is disingenuous.
I would humbly request that you simply learn more about the man and his methods before you rush to judge. Don’t believe everything you’ve heard because you heard it on the news. There’s a lot more to Rex Ryan than an out-of-context, misinterpreted soundbyte would have you believe.

I’m got to agree with Jerry on this Jon boy. I think the Blue flu you caught on Xmas eve is affecting your judgment.
