New York Knicks Carmelo Anthony shines again in win vs Atlanta Hawks
It seems after the resignation of Coach Mike D’Antoni, and the taking on of Interim Coach by Mike Woodson, the New York Knicks can do no wrong. Carmelo Anthony had 39 points on Sunday to go along with the game winner with 1:40 left on the clock. Amare Stoudemare came to play also, adding 22 points and 12 rebounds in the game, with a very key defensive play late in the game. With the clock winding down, Marvin Williams of the Atlanta Hawks had his dunk blocked by Amare as time expired. Tyson Chandler (whom I personally think is the leader in the Defensive Player of the Year award race) was given the day off to rest
With all of this buzz surrounding the Knicks and people wondering whether Carmelo and Amare can coexist, they certainly should shut up their critics after Sunday’s win. Both had superb games, combining for 62 points in the win, while both provided key plays in the end to will their team to victory, whether it was on offense (Melo) or on defense (Amare). With the playoffs looming and the sudden coaching change, the Knicks have picked the best time to get hot and carry that momentum into the playoffs. They are currently 16-6 under coach Mike Woodson, and hold the 7th spot in playoff seeding, looking to upset the Lebron James and the Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs.
