Landry Fields Will Not Be Back With The New York Knicks Next Season
Landry Fields has played great for the New York Knicks in the past two seasons that he has been on the team. In his first season Fields put up 9.7 points per game in his first season as a supplement to Amar’e Stoudemire and then to Carmelo Anthony. Then this season, in the same role, Fields put up 8.8 points per game. Both numbers are good for someone who does not touch the ball that often.
However, Fields failed to show up in the playoffs in either year. Against the Boston Celtics in 2011, Fields put up 1.8 points per game, and 1.3 rebounds and assists per game in four games against the Celtics. This season against the Miami Heat, Fields did a ton better. He averaged 7.2 points per game in five games against Miami. A little better.
However, that is not enough for him to do. Fields needed to do more in the playoffs and it feels like more and more he begins to have different spurts of starting off strong and then once April and May come along his play begins to taper off. That is why you will not see Fields in a Knicks uniform next season.
The team has some decisions to make regarding Fields, Steve Novak, J.R. Smith and Jeremy Lin. One decision you may expect them to make is to let Fields walk and although Fields would “love” to play for the Knicks again, he will not.
The next decision, after Fields, the Knicks will have to make is with Novak. Novak is a good three-point factor but failed to show up in the playoffs against the Heat as well. Novak may be a bigger asset than Fields for the Knicks as they look to put more pieces together for them to become a contender.
