Most of us have come to the realization that Jose Reyes played his last game as a New York Met and have accepted that reality. The time is just not right for the New York Mets to pour such a large sum of money into a long-term contract. What team might Jose Reyes sign with then? We’ve heard rumors of several teams: San Francisco Giants, Milwaukee Brewers, Washington Nationals, Miami Marlins, Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies. I’m not sure why it took so long, but that last team is what just raised an eyebrow. Maybe I’m overstating the rivalry between the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. After all, it takes two to tango and the National League East title has gone through Philadelphia for the past five seasons. Even though the idea of Jose Reyes getting fitted for a Philadelphia Phillies uniform seems a bit far fetched, I must admit that my raised eyebrow dropped back down to its normal level as soon as I recalled Johnny Damon’s decision to sign with the New York Yankees after the 2005 season. If a player of Johnny Damon’s stature (at the time) can go directly from the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees on his own will, there is nothing stopping Jose Reyes from making the two hour move from Citi Field to Citizens Bank Park.
I definitely wouldn’t want to see Jose Reyes showing off his dynamic array of tools in the City of Brotherly Love, but I guess its another realization that New York Mets fans have to come to grips with. There’s a lot of competition for him though so there is no need to fret over this hypothetical situation at this point.

We don’t want Reyes. No work ethic and doesn’t play through injuries. The fans and Media would eat him alive in Philly. He’s a New York athlete. Too pu$$y for Philly by a long shot. We have a stud SS coming up too. Just need someone cheap to fill the gap between him and (good riddance) Rollins…
You act like New York isn’t the mecca of professional sports. If you can make it New York, you can make it anywhere. And the only reason Reyes or anyone from New York should be scared of a Philly fan is the threat of getting drilled in the head with a D battery. As far as playing through injuries, there’s a difference between playing through pain and playing through injuries. The former is a matter of toughness while the latter would be an exhibition of foolishness. I’m not sure what your qualifications are for a stud SS. Reyes is a stud, Rollins was a stud when he was healthy, but Freddy Galvis – I’m assuming that’s who you’re referring to – doesn’t look like he can even scratch the surface of those guys.
New York is the Mecca of sports only insofar as New Yorkers proclaim that it is. Otherwise there is no evidence that New York is the Mecca of sports. The previous comment is yet another example of pointless, mastabatory self-aggrandizement that New Yorkers love to engage upon in hopes that non New Yorkers actually buy into such bull.
