It is a little bit unfair of me to say that Ryan Braun’s MVP award was an upset, but the pulse that I got was that the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Matt Kemp was going to take home the award in 2011. Obviously, that pulse was flat. Ryan Braun was absolutely deserving of the award as he led his Milwaukee Brewers to the National League Central crown and to the NLCS. All of that was in addition to the monster numbers he posted. For the early portion of the season, it appeared as if the New York Mets were on their way to producing the first MVP winner in franchise history. Unfortunately, we all know that injuries derailed Jose Reyes’ hopes of taking home the award. Considering how good Matt Kemp was en route to his 2nd place finish, Jose Reyes would have had to take his game up a notch even higher than what he was playing at before the first hamstring injury. At this point, David Wright and Ike Davis present the best hopes for a New York Mets MVP, but even that list could be trimmed by the time 2012 rolls around.
