New York Mets May Keep David Wright On Board Until Trade Deadline

I’ve been very outspoken about my desire for the New York Mets to trade David Wright and to obtain more key pieces for their rebuilding efforts.  I’ve said several times that David Wright does the New York Mets no good at this point in time.  There is just not enough talent in that lineup around him or in the pitching staff to turn the team into a contender.  I wanted to see a blockbuster trade happen this winter, but I might have to remain patient because the New York Mets apparently want to wait until the Trade Deadline before they move him.

Even though I’m anxious to see some more young talent brought back into Queens, this might be the best way to go for the Mets.  Wright hasn’t exactly been a show stopper over the past few seasons – particularly this past season in which he struggled with his health.  If he can get off to a hot start in 2012 his trade value will climb a bit and that is only a good thing for the Mets and the package that they’d bring back.

If the New York Mets decide to hold on to David Wright through the off-season, I’ll be able to handle that without any complaints.  I just hope they don’t keep him around for the sake of it (a.k.a. PR) and miss out on adding some talent that may actually contribute to a playoff run in the relatively near future.
