Alderson Needs To Realize That Mets Fans Are Not Idiots
This is what the 2012 season has come to, New York Mets fans. In a dismal month of July now passed and no trades either way made, GM Sandy Alderson has claimed that “We’re not dead” and “We have not given up on the season.” Are you serious? I would rather have had Alderson come out and say that the fans are idiots and will believe anything that he says. At least then we could say he was telling the truth.
Back at the end of June, fans realized that with a quality closer and maybe a 7th inning reliever, the Mets would have had a chance to stay in the race with the Washington Nationals. Alderson could not so much as bring us Huston Street, Jonathan Broxton, Brett Myers or anybody that would have been better than having Bobby Parnell blow saves and the rest of the bullpen get stretched out. Instead, management allowed July to unfold as it did and in the end was let off the hook to make any moves.
Even had the Mets stayed a game or two over the .500 mark, Alderson would still have not made a move. You can put that in the books! Now Alderson wants the fans to believe that by doing nothing, that was the best for this team. Well, you know what? If help had been gotten in the beginning of July, then maybe there would be meaningful baseball in August and September. Yet, the ownership and management failed this fan base again and now wants us to believe they have not given up on the season.
The white flag has been up for weeks, Sandy. You have become like every GM before you. Et tu, Sandy? Weren’t you brought here to help change the direction of a fallen franchise with poor ownership? Keep your lies and your rhetoric. The fans will not tolerate it any more. You gave up on the season alright. And, yes, in case you actually believe yourself, we are dead. CitiField will be lucky to have much life in it the rest of the way. The only thing left to do for fans is to believe that 2013 will be different, but unfortunately, we all know better.
