NHL Rumors: Could J.T. Miller Be Part Of The New York Rangers Roster This Year?
The New York Rangers drafted Jonathan Tanner Miller, better known as J.T. Miller, in 2011 with the 15th overall pick.
After he was drafted, Miller played most of the 2011-12 season at the junior hockey level. He played for the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League, where he scored 25 goals and 61 points. Later he joined the Rangers AHL affiliate the Connecticut Whale for the American Hockey League playoffs, registering one assist in eight games. When Connecticut was eliminated, Miller was added to the Rangers’ playoff roster, but never saw time.
Currently Miller along with fellow Ranger prospects Brady Skjei and Steven Fogarty have been selected for U.S. National Junior Team.
Miller is only 19, but posses a lot of qualities and attributes that the Rangers embody in their players. He is very good on the defensive end and plays very physically. On the offensive end, he is not flashy but gets the job done with solid shooting and passing skills.
Right now Miller is projected to be a checking line player, with the potential to be a top-six forward. Is there any chance that we will see J.T. Miller in a Rangers’ uniform this year?
While in the past he stated that he only wanted to turn pro after a year of developing, it is highly unlikely J.T. Miller will get a spot on the Rangers roster this year.
The Rangers are currently stacked with offensively talented and physical forwards. The only chance Miller currently has is if a bottom-six forward is injured. Players like Michael Rupp and Arron Asham, who are older and like to fight, may suffer injuries along the way. If not, Miller should fit well in Connecticut, where he has the potential to be a top player for the Whale.
