This shouldn’t be much of a surprise. The New York Yankees are usually pretty good about evaluating all viable options and C.J. Wilson should be no different. Dan Martino tells us that Brian Cashman has every intention of meeting with the Texas Rangers’ (former) ace. I’m not really buying into this much at all. Even though C.J. Wilson is arguably the best pitcher available this offseason (depending on how you feel about Yu Darvish), I don’t see the New York Yankees jumping into the fray in the early going. That is a luxury afforded to them when they re-signed CC Sabathia. There is no pressure to blow C.J. Wilson away with a big initial offer. Maybe the New York Yankees lurk along the fringes of the C.J. Wilson market and pounce if/when the price is right. Maybe they just treat him to dinner without any real intentions of even making an offer. After all, some in the organization have said that the team views him more as a middle-of-the-rotation starter as opposed to a No. 1 or No. 2. We shall see.
