According to Sweeny Murti, former New York Yankee Jorge Posada will announce his retirement within the next couple of weeks. It was pretty clear that with Russell Martin handling the catching duties and Jesus Montero emerging as the team’s primary DH for 2012, there was not a spot available for Jorge Posada on the New York Yankees. For much of the off-season, it was unclear whether he would continue to look for work or if he would hang up the spikes. You can correct me if I’m wrong here, but I do seem to remember Jorge Posada indicating early in the off-season that he wasn’t quite ready to call it quits. Apparently he’s changed his stance though. I feel selfish for this, but I have been hoping that he would decide to retire. This past season was already rocky enough and I don’t want to see Jorge Posada sputter to the end of his baseball career in the uniform of some American League West pretender. It is rare for a player to start and finish his career in one uniform and I’ll be proud as a New York Yankees fan when No. 20 makes his retirement official.
