According to Ken Rosenthal, the New York Yankees are in serious talks with utility man Bill Hall.  In 2010 Bill Hall had a strong season (18 HR, .772 OPS) with the Boston Red Sox as he logged time at every position on the field but first base and catcher.  He flopped in 2011, but that’s what happens to your offense when you play for the Houston Astros and San Francisco Giants.  For the upcoming 2012 season, I like Bill Hall more than Eric Chavez simply for the fact that I can trust him a bit more to stay healthy.  Not only that, but the former is far more versatile as he can probably still handle both up-the-middle positions in limited duty and can man the outfield as well.  Currently, Eduardo Nunez is on deck to handle back-up duties at SS, 2B and maybe the Hot Corner as well, but Bill Hall could add some valuable versatility and depth to the bench.  I think this would be a solid move for the New York Yankees.

I like it,a backup player who can play multiple positions is my kind of bench player. I would not mind if the Yanks talked to the Rangers about Micheal Young.I think he would be great for the DH spot, and third, and the outfield.AJ would love to go back to “Good Old Boy”country.Pay half his salary throw in a B prospect or someone like say Cervelli, and it would be a good starting point to making a deal that will help both clubs. With AJ the rangers can move Naftali Felez back tothe pen or trade a pitcher for something that they need.

I’m with you. It’s nice to be able to turn to your bench and be able to fill several positions with one player. I’m not sure if an A.J. Burnett for Michael Young trade works though. First of all, Young is just flat out better than Burnett. I mean, would the Rangers even want Burnett if they got him for $10 million over the next two years? I’m not sure. Also, I’m not sure they want to move Neftali Feliz back to the bullpen. He came up as a starting pitcher and they had success moving Alexi Ogando from the ‘pen to the rotation so they probably figure than can do it again.

Well craigwilliams what you say is very true.but like I said in my post was that it would be a good starting point.Remember we’re talking about a player that the Rangers couldn’t find a spot for,and his salary would be great for the Rangers to get rid of because of the Darvish signing.Well if you take out AJ and put in Hughes I think it’s a good starting point to the conversation.

Well, Michael Young can certainly still rake. Even though his SLG has been trending downward, he would definitely make a great addition to the Yankees. I can’t see the Rangers trading him to the Yankees for anything less than a significant package and I’m not sure it would be worth it by the time the prices matched. Good idea in theory though.
