I have the perfect explanation for why Mike Hamlin will start at strong safety on Saturday against the Texans instead of rookie Barry Church: it’s preseason! Church played very well against San Diego in the absence of Gerald Sensabaugh, who left the game with a shoulder injury. Hamlin has not practiced or played since leaving the exhibition against Oakland with a concussion and neck strain. Church played well against the Chargers on Saturday, but Hamlin will get the start with a limited amount of time to get back in the flow before the regular season begins. “It gives me a chance to showcase what I can do,” Hamlin said.
