Commentary: Saints ugly win could be bad news for rest of the NFL

When the NFL released that the opening game of the season would be between the Vikings and the Saints, the NFL executives surely envisioned a high-scoring, high-flying affair, much like the hotly-contested NFC Championship Game between the two teams. On Thursday night at 10:30 central time, dozens of NFL suits had to be disappointed, despite the all-time ratings the game received. Instead of a back and forth shootout, the nation was treated to a 14-9 Saints win that only had one lead change and slow-paced offenses for the most part. Although a win is a win for the Saints, it isn’t the kind of win that Saints players, coaches, and fans are accustomed to. They’re used to point totals in the 30′s, having to score a lot to keep up with the other team, and giving up a lot of yardage....
